MANILA, Philippines — Historical epic “GomBurZa” led all nominees for the 47th Gawad Urian with a dozen nods, including acting nominations for Cedrick Ju an, Piolo Pascual, Enchong Dee, and Dante Rivero.

Juan is competing in the Best Actor category while Pascual, Dee, and Rivero are all up fo r Best Supporting Actor against Epy Quizon from “Firefly” and Ronnie Lazaro from “Gospel of the Beast.”

“GomBurZa” is also up for Best Picture, Best Directo r for Pepe Diokno, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Sound, and Best Music.

Following in the nomination count is Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 winner “Firefly” with 10 nods including Best Picture, Best Director for Zig Dulay, Best Actor for Euwenn Mikaell Aleta, Best Supporting Actress for Alessandra de Rossi, and Best Screenplay.

“Ang Duyan ng Magiting” and “Third World Romance” both earned seven nominations each and are also competing for Best Picture, with 2023 Summer Metro Manila Film Festival winner “About Us But Not About Us” and Cinemalaya 2023 winner “Iti Mapukpukaw” completing the lot.

Like “GomBurZa” in the Best Supporting Actor race, “Ang Duyang ng Magiting” has three representatives in contention — Agot Isidro, Dolly de Leon, and Frances Makil-Ignacio. Jorrybell Agoto from “When Thi s is All Over” and the previously mentioned de Rossi round off the category.

Juan and Aleta are up against Carlo Aquino from “Third World Romance,” Paolo O’Hara from “Ang Duyan ng Magiting,” Jansen Magpusao from “The Gospel of the Beast,” and Romnick Sarmenta from “About Us But Not About Us.”

The Best Actress race is a tough competition among Kathryn Bernardo from “A Very Good Girl” (the film’s sole nomination), Charlie Dizon from “Third World Romance,” Max Eigenmann from “Raging Grace,” and Gabby Padilla from “Gitling.”

“Iti Mapukpukaw,” which made history at Cinemalaya 2023 as the festival’s first feature-length animated film, is the sole nominee for Best Animation.

The 47th Gawad Urian will take place on June 8, 2024, in partnership with De La Salle University, the Film Development Council of the Philippines, and TVUP.
