MANILA, Philippines\u00a0\u2014 Esteemed filmmaker\u00a0Carlos Siguion-Reyna is now the Chairman of the Cinemalaya Competition and Monitoring Committee.<\/p>\n
Siguion-Reyna succeeded\u00a0fellow filmmaker Jose Javier Reyes, who is\u00a0the new Chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines.<\/p>\n
Coinciding with his new role,\u00a0Siguion-Reyna will still be the Cinemalaya Institute Head and Program d irector, overseeing the educational arm of the annual independent film festival.<\/p>\n
The filmmaker has been giving workshops and conducting direction courses at Institute since 2015.<\/p>\n
Siguion-Reyna received his MFA in Film at the New York University\u2019s Tisch School of the Arts, teaching graduate film courses at its Singapore campus.<\/p>\n

His thesis film “Patas Lang (Fair Exchange)” won an award in the narrative category of the 1989 Nissan FOCUS Awards and was selected as one of The Outstanding Young Filipinos in the field of Arts\/Cinema\u00a0in 1995.<\/p>\n
Since then, the director has done 13\u00a0feature films, all but one produced under the company Reyna Films, which was previously managed by his late mother, singer-actress\u00a0Armida Siguion-Reyna.<\/p>\n
One of his feature films, “Hari ng Tondo,” received the Special Jury Prize in the Directors\u2019 Showcase category of the 10th edition\u00a0of Cinemalaya back in 2014.<\/p>\n
Other films saw similar success in several\u00a0international film festivals in San Diego, Toronto, Newport Beach, Berlin and Singapore, as well as local industry bodies Gawad Urian, Luna Awards or the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) Awards, Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS) Awards\u00a0and the Young Critics Circle Awards.<\/p>\n
Siguion-Reyna served\u00a0three terms as president of the Directors’\u00a0Guild of the Philippines Inc. where he taught\u00a0film direction and conducted\u00a0short lectures and workshops as he did at the University of the Philippines Film Institutes, the Cultural Center of the Philippines\u00a0and the Mowelfund Film Institute.<\/p>\n

The PGT circuit promises a thrilling spectacle across multiple age divisions. From the veterans of the 15-18 category to the up-and-coming talents in the younger brackets, every player is primed to showcase their skills over the grueling rounds ahead.<\/p>\n
Set apart from other junior golf organizations, the JPGT, organized by the Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and sponsored by ICTSI, represents a new frontier for young golfers. Javie Bautista, riding high on a wave of recent victories, emerges as a standout contender in the boys\u2019 11-14 category. With a string of wins both at home and abroad, the Ateneo standout is poised to make his mark in the circuit and cement his status as a rising star in Philippine golf.<\/p>\n
With his school obligations behind him, top contender Ra ce Manhit is maximizing every moment to fine-tune his game for the upcoming campaign.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Recognizing the constraints on his practice time, he has prioritized polishing his short game, knowing full well that precision around the green will be crucial on longer yard ages this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust finished school, so practice is still limited. We focused on perfecting my short game since the yardage will be longer than last year,\u201d said Manhit, who is also competing in the boys’ 11-14 category.<\/p>\n
Exuding confidence and anticipation, Manhit is eager to test his skills against his peers, asserting his readiness to engage in fierce battles on the course.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m prepared to give each of them a formidable challenge. My aim remains the same \u2013 to secure a spot at the top earn a seat in the match play finals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The 14-leg JPGT circuit, featuring 18-hole tournaments, is open to all youngsters with players aged 15-18 to vie in four-round clashes. Those in the 8-10 and 11-14 divisions will compete in 36-hole and 54-hole tournaments, respectively.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the tour moves to the Pradera Verde leg in Lubao, Pampanga on May 28-31, while the Pinewoods Golf Club in Baguio will stage the third leg on Hune 11-14.<\/p>\n
