P3.4-M worth of shabu seized in Marawi City PDEA operation

NEW YORK – Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert was fined $75,000 by the NBA on Tuesday (Wednesday Manila time) for what the league called “making an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture” questioning “the integrity of the league and game officials.”

Frenchman Gobert was seen by television cameras rubbing his thumb on his fingers in a “money-sorting” gesture during Minnesota’s 115-107 loss to defending NBA champion Denver on Sunday at Minneapolis.

The move came after Gobert was whistled for a foul with 4:10 remaining in the fourth quarter, his second foul in as many Denver possessions.

Gobert won his record-tying fourth NBA Defensive Player of the Year award last week.

The defeat left the T-Wolves and Nuggets level at two wins each in their best-of-seven Wes tern Conference second round series.

The NBA said the fine ta kes into account Gobert’s “history of improper conduct toward game officials.”

Gobert was fined $100,000 by the NBA on March 10 for making the same gesture in a 113-104 overtime loss at Cleveland two nights earlier.

After that contest, Gobert said gambling was hurting the sport.

COTABATO CITY— Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency seized P3.4 million worth of shabu from a dealer entrapped in Marawi City on Tuesday.

Gil Cesario Castro, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, identified the now detained suspect as Arham Hadji Omar Alim, who will be prosecuted for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Castro said that Alim was immediately arrested after selling to combined PDEA-BARMM agents and personnel of different units under the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous half a kilo of shabu, worth P3.4 million, in a tradeoff in Barangay Marawi Poblacion, Marawi City on Tuesday afternoon.

Marawi City is the capital of Lanao del Sur, one of the six provinces in the Bangsamoro region.

Castro said the sting that resulted in the arrest of Alim was premised on tips about his shabu peddling activities from Lanao del Sur provincial officials and Muslim religious leaders in Marawi City.
